I suspect that this is why the sense of humour evolved. Someone with an open mind and eye can find humour (even dark humour) in the bleakest of situations. Sadly, while most people can and do laugh at others, too few have mastered the art of laughing at themselves. An ability which has been one of my mainstays since my teens.
