I suppose that Dances With Smurfs had to be done that way to make the entire planet look alien enough and human actors didn't have to work on empty soundstages pretending it was a jungle..

I rather think that John Carter did a lot of things better - the Tharks especially looked good. Pity it was such a bloody awful film! But that can be put down to completely changing everything from the book!
