I seem to recall that the late Isaac Asimov, in one of his many essays, inveighed at some length against the 'tribal thinking' which informs most of our 'traditional' views on sex and sexuality and which is intended to curtail any form of such activity which does not result in more children for the tribe.

Unfortunately little or nothing had been done to alleviate the ignorance of the majority of people, and it is from that ignorance that the peddlers of religion and ideology draw their power.
