I had dealings with political junkies as a Union rep and Branch Chair. For them, it was all about getting rid of the Tories, or Equality and Diversity. Me, I was pragmatic. I put Health and Safety before Equality and Diversity. To me, Equality was about everyone getting the same pay for the same work. It was about making sure that everyone got their basic annual pay rise and be damned to performance management. About making sure that bullying managers were fired and that people weren't pressured into working long hours and giving up their annual leave. To me, racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia were just different names for bullying, and bullies got short shrift.

As you might imagine, I was more than a little surprised when all these nice young poltically aware young folk unanimously asked this craggy, difficult, hard-bitten veteran to become Chair. I asked why, and was told "Right now, we need a pit-bull!" Gee, thanks, guys!

One of the reasons I like your ideas is that I rather doubt the TDG would have any need for pit-bulls!
