I find this a rather self-indulgent and elitist statement, to be honest. It also encourages detachment, rather than getting down and dirty and doing what needs to be done, here and now.

It's also based on the unproven speculation that some part of us will continue after we die. The afterlife is histoically a con practised on the peasants by authority to keep them from demanding a better life here and now.
