I don't know if this is relevant, but at the core of the world Stephen R Donaldson created for his Chronicles of Thomas Covenant is the idea of The Law, a stringent condition that sternly measures the worth of anything created by the effort and sacrifice put into its creation. Within that world, power has a cost, as in the Unfettered Healer who can only heal the wounds of others by taking the identical wound and its pain on herself. The Law has become embodied in an artifact, the Staff of Law, made by a powerful Lord in previous ages, while corruption of the Law is embodied in the Illearth Stone, which distorts and twists creatures of the Law to make them destroy rather than create. Covenants white gold wedding ring can channel wild magic, the antithesis of Law, power without cost. In his first attempt to defeat the antagonist, Lord Foul, Covenant destroys both Staff and Stone, weakening both Law and Corruption, and allowing them to mix. The second time, Covenant surrenders the ring, knowing that Foul, who is bound by the Law, must bear the cost of using its power, reducing him to impotence.
One does wonder if, in some fashion, the Elden Ring was the embodiment of whatever force or spirit kept the Lands Between functioning, and its destruction is bringing about their slow death?
