I don't know how old you are, but I was in my 30s, perhaps 40s, before social media became a thing. The internet has intensified many issues, has made people more aware of them, but this has had both positive and negative effects. The 'incels' were there from the late '70s onwards, but it was the internet that put them in contact with each other and created the echo chamber that deepens and worsens thir individual states of mind.
