I don't know. The language, the characters, the way they are written, all a bit archaic these days. I mean, Tolkiens' archaism is deliberate and self-conscious. But Lewis' young protagonists must seem horribly meek and naive to todays' more savvy, independent-minded youngsters!

Also- The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant are a better comparison to Narnia than LOTR.
