I am increasingly drawn to the notion that men and women should not live together, but in separate communities that meet perhaps once or twice a year for baby-making purposes.

But that only works when men are doing what they're supposed to be doing - hunting, fighting, heavy labour and dying like flies. If more than a third of the population is male, that's too many!
