Hmm, we call it 'Diversity & Inclusion' here.
It allowed me to give a talk on Atheism at a 'Lunch and Learn' session at work.
It caused me to be ticked off for kissing my wife goodbye in the car park, which 'could have offended gay people'. (I know quite a few gay people, none of whom would be offended.)
It got me into a row for calling my wife my 'wife' instead of my 'partner'. (Too patriarchal and sexist.)
It got me into another row about my beard, with a Muslim colleague saying that as a Christian I should be clean-shaven and my beard was 'cultural appropriation'. I told him that I wasn't a Christian and that my beard was my Viking heritage. He shut up.
I was asked to speak 'in more of a tenor' because my natural baritone was too 'masculine and intimidating', to shorten my stride and 'dress and behave in a more gender-neutral way'.
I was told I 'should be more open to physical contact' when I declined to hug someone who was leaving.
Meanwhile, as a Union rep I was playing hardball on behalf of colleagues who were being racially and sexually abused and bullied.
Guess what? I got accused of bullying the managers! Of being confrontational instead of conciliatory and of a lack of deference.
Mutual respect and fair play? No, too difficult, we'll have Diversity and Inclusion instead! Why change our attitudes when we can be performative instead?
No wonder I'm so grumpy!
