He's certainly managed to convince a lot of people! He's one of them, you know! Just as calculating, just as deft at manipulation of the media. He's just reversing the usual technique and emoting all over the place instead of maintaining the stoic face. His hope is that by doing this, he'll give the Royal Family no choice but to strip his title and cut him off completely.
I've been watching those lads since Diana died, waiting to see what the outcome was going to be.
William is, luckily for everyone, the ideal face for the Royal Family. Affable, unflappable, fearless, able to stick on a horse as if he was born there, and as dumb as a bag of rocks. His grandmothers' grandson. Catherine is his ideal wife - clever, iron-willed and in full control of him, herself and, despite appearances, the children. She is Harrys' greatest threat.
Harry seems more like his fathers' son every day. Clever, brave, passionate and determined to do things his way. He is Charles without the years of painfully-learned self-control. Charles wanted his sons to be themselves, so he didn't clamp down on Harry the way his parents did on him. Harry wants out. He's wanted out since his mother died and everything since has been aimed at that. He'll go on making more and worse noises until he is finally and irrevocably out. To do that, he has to convince the Princess of Wales that they can't afford to keep him in.
Look for a different kind of monarch in Charles III. He's already established himself as a more 'reachable' figure than his mother - going over to people, shaking hands and speaking with unvetted members of the public. He has a temper, no patience with incompetence and doesn't suffer fools gladly. He also has a knack for bringing together effective groups of people and getting them to actually do things. He's as good as said that he intends to substantially reform the way the Monarchy operates. I suspect that he'll stay on the throne just long enough to do that before stepping aside to let William and Kate take over.
