Having seen a photograph of Leonard Bernstein, he did have quite a large nose. Thus I am inclined to say that Cooper, in using the prosthesis, is merely seeking verisimilitude. Given the normal attitude of film and television producers, which is to use an actor who looks nothing like the person represented, I consider Coopers' decision somewhat praiseworthy.
