Given that most of the other illnesses that used to kill us off like flies have pretty much been eradicated, we've reached a point where there's not much else left to die of!

My mother died of aspiration pneumonia caused by Alzheimers, and my father simply slipped away in hs sleep. Both in their mid to late 80s.

These things aren't epidemics as much as they are natures' last resorts!
