Did you know that 'nice' originally meant 'precise', 'accurate' or 'neat'? That a person who nitpicked about things was described as 'overnice'?

Now it means 'blandly pleasant'.

I am neither nice nor kind (unless you count not punching somebody in the face, even when they deserve it, as kind). I see no point in being kind to people who have got in a mess through their own stupidity or incompetence - they need to learn.

Helping or supporting someone who is in trouble through no fault of their own is ethically and morally required, not kind.

Helping someone who has suffered an injustice is not only moral and ethical, but enlightened self-interest, as injustice harms us all. Again, kindness is nothing to do with it.

Kindness, like charity, is just another way for the privileged to salve their consciences while asserting and demonstrating their superiority over the less privileged.
