Couple of points. It's worth distinguishing psittacism - the unthinking utterance of banalities -and what Orwell called 'duckspeaking' - the unthinking repetition of the Party l;ine. One finds very little psittacism on Medium, but a good deal of duckspeaking in the comments!

The second is endemic logorrhea. People talk too bloody much already, and social media has encouraged the chatter. I always taught my kids "Don't speak uness you have something substantive to say., then say it in as few words as you can manage!"

I avoid 'small talk' and gossip as I would a rabid dog! So what if people call me unsociable, curt or rude? Life is too short to spend it drowning in blather and waffle!
