Consider, you purchase and carry home your pet's food, and serve it to them at regular intervals. All without the slightest exertion on the part of said pet. Which of the two is the smarter?

Look at our cousins, the Great Apes. Experiments and studies prove that they are perfectly mentally capable of speech, but they don't speak. They're clever enough to talk, but wise enough not to. Because, as my grandmother used to say, if we knew they could understand orders, we'd make them work!
