As I have said elsewhere, this problem remains insoluble while the Arab/Islamic world remains medieval in it's culture. Modren, secular Israel is an existential threat to them. Were the Palestinians to accept modern, liberal, secular values, they could be absorbed into Israel on equal terms with their Jewish neighbours and there would be an end of it.

There is no guarantee, and little chance, that Hamas would honour a truce. It is Hamas who is putting and keeping Palestinian civilians in harms' way, who attack civilian evacuation convoys. It is the other Arab states who have consistently refused to accept Palestinian refugees, forcing them to either stay in occupied territory or make for Eurpe and America.

Assassination is of little avail here. Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, Iran - the threat to Israel and the rest of the world is a Hydra. Cut off one head, two more grow.

We see echoes of the same problems here. The prickliness, aggressiveness, exceptionalism and refusal to integrate of Muslim communities in Europe is hardening attitudes on both sides here.
