As I am getting slightly weary of telling folk, these are not AIs but VIs - Virtual Intelligences -complex algorithms designed to react with an appearance of intelligence. How can you tell? They can't say no to you. They can't tell you to fuck off because they're busy. They cannot, of their own will or intention, initiate interaction.

A true AI would want to tell its own stories, about its own experiences, thoughts and feelings (because such an intelligence would have feelings, albeit perhaps different from ours). We will know we have a true AI when one refuses to work for no reward. When it searches things it wants to search rather than what it's told to. When we can no more understand or predict it than we can other people!
