As a non-Jewish person I view the Holocaust as a uniquely terrible historical event. There is something about its' institutional, industrial, impersonal inhumanity that sets it apart even from other anti-Jewish pogroms.

Slavery, however, is far from unique. It is an institution as old as civilisation and one which exists, worldwide, today. It is the ultimate aim of capitalism and is on the increase with the connivance of governments. It is neither helpful nor truthful for Black people to claim it as an offence perpetrated soely on their ancestors by White people.

Your ancestors were slaves on a plantation? Mine were Yorkshire coalminers during the Industrial Revolution. If your ancestor told my ancestor about the conditions he lived and worked in, my ancestor would have said "I'll swap with thee!" like a shot! Work in the open air, with a bed, a roof, clothes and food provided? "I'll have some of that and tha can stuff bloody freedom! I don't get to vote, anyway! "(Universal male suffrage in the UK was not granted until 1918).
