Ah, but you get so much attention from it! An outrageous remark here, a public scolding there, and suddenly everyone is talking about you! Oscar Wilde commented that: “There’s only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.” It's facile, but sadly true. JK Rowling made a stupid comment. It would have been so easy for her to say "Oops, sorry, I didnt think it through!" Because not all women menstruate and not all 'people who menstruate' are women ( a 13-year-old girl can be many things as well as a gigantic pain in the arse, but she isn't a woman). But because it got her back in the public eye, she doubled down. Would have been much better if he'd done what folk wanted her to do and write more Harry Potter books!

As to assumed victimhood, only a very few people here were concerned with Megha Markles' colour. Most of us never thought of her as Black until she started making a song and dance about it! Fact is, she went about putting peoples' backs up, then said they were only angry because she's Black! All she needed to do was mend her manners, but that would have meant putting a bit of work in!

This stuff is going on all the time, and it's all about getting attention, or being unprepared to do some work on yourself!
